OUR WOOD RESTORATION PROCESS
A-1 uses a five step process when refinishing a wooden structure. This process remains the same be it a deck, fence, gazeebo, or even the siding on your house. We use proven industry methods and products, which give uniform and superior results. Each project may call for a different approach as to what are the best products to use, but the process remains the same.
1) We first do an analysis of the structure to be restored. This includes inspection, taking measurements, testing existing finishes and noting any repairs that may be necessary. We provide the customer with a detailed proposal and a guaranteed price.
2) Next we show up to do the finish removal or deep cleaning. This is done by using various detergents or chemicals and low pressure rinsing (500-800psi). This process removes any dead wood fibers and ensures a fresh layer of wood to apply a new finish to. All plantlife and exposed structures are carefully protected to prevent any possible damage.
3) We then neutralize and brighten the structure using a low pH solution. This critical step is one that is usually omitted by do-it-yourselfers and uninformed contractors. Failure to return the wood to a neutral pH level (around 7), results in a poor quality finish that is doomed to early failure.
4) We then come back after the structure has had sufficient time to dry and perform any necessary repairs. This will usually include some sanding and buffing, as well as countersinking nails or screws. We pay special attention to deck floors so using your deck while barefoot, isn't a painfull experience.
5) Finally, we apply a high quality penetrating oil stain such as Ready Seal or Wood Defender in the color you've chosen. We apply a heavy single coat to all vertical areas, and two medium coats to all horizontal surfaces. If we determine more coats are necessary for improved longevity, we apply them at no cost to the customer.
